The Doves

White DovesOur doves originate from the Rock Dove and are of the same family as the Homing or Racing Pigeon.

Once the Doves are a year old they are paired up together and will go on to breed youngsters. From the time of pairing until having young ones in the nest is only a matter of around 25 days. Once the young birds are around 28 days old they start to fend for themselves. Within 6 weeks from then, we will start to train them in any direction from around 10 miles.

Once the Doves begin their journey home they will travel at speeds up to 60 miles per hour. On the birds arrival home they have their feed and are left outdoors to enjoy their freedom. All of our White Doves have access to clean water where they bath on a regular basis and are especially shampoo'd in warm soapy water.

White dovesThe doves that we use are actually homing doves for release which can also be accompanied by our fantails for display. Once our doves are released they will circle the sky together before making their safe journey home to either Gretna Green or The Lake District.
